Its no secret that Ana,Zee and I are complete MAC loyalists.But at one time even I was confused and a bit intimidated amongst all the MUAS at MAC who can be less than polite and even condescending many times.My love affair with makeup began when I joined an airline at the age of 20 and ten years down the road.. the relationship just grows stronger.I was introduced(ok forced )by my airline to go? MAC when it opened in MUmbai in 2008 coz I had a nasty acne breakout which left a few marks and I coudnt find a good drugstore concealer.I went there for foundation and concealer matching and since that day theres no looking back.
Shopping at MAC:
The glossy store and the fully made up staff can be intimidating to even the steeliest of people.the tips I am about to share apply to many situations in life anyway.
It always pays be to smartly dressed and have a good sense of hygeine.One of my ex colleagues is an MUA at MAC and i have seen her cringe so many times when women wanna try lipsticks and have come after eating a garlicky meal or lot of tea/coffee.Its common courtsey that one has fresh breath and no body odour when you know you would be in close proximity with other people.
Do your research well so you do not get sucked into buying something you know you will not use.When you are dropping big bucks mits best to get good use out of them na?I have bought the neon pink lippies from mac which are just lying unused as my hubby starts snickering whenever i wear Impassioned or GAT.
Eyeshadows in Soft Brown, Sable, Swiss Chocolate (refills) & Trax & Satin Taupe
Be nice.I have lost count of the number of times i have seen people being rude to the MUAs just coz the MUA said tht shade the shopper chose would suit her.Trust yours and the MUA,s judgement and you will walk out with a winner.Case in point:Taupe lipstick for me.I always thought it was brown blah blha and when the MUA convinced me to try it I loved it so much that I snapped it up.Its always good to keep an open mind .
Finally,dont buy anything that you are not fully convinced about.Dont let the SA push you into something that you are not sure of.Remember,it is you who are paying them and not the other way around.
What are the must buys for a MAC beginner?
MAC has a range of foundations that suit every skin type and pigmentation levels and with different finishes.Try it at the store and see how it suits you and keep it on for a few hours before you buy it.It will give a better idea about of the foudation wears.If you ask me.. my vote is with Studio fix powder and fluid .Im NC 40 in MAC
Eyeshadows:MAC has a fab range of eyeshaodws ranging from neutral to in your face brights.I suggest that when buying an eyeshadow for the first time its better to go with a more wearable colour that you can get good use out of.My picks:Satin taupe,Ricepaper,Folie,Woodwinked and Goldmine and Amber Lights.
Lipsticks:Mac has lipsticks in a number of finishes which differ in pigmentation and staying power.Amplified cremes and Lustre are my favs although they are poles apart in the texture and finish.My picks:Mehr,Cosmo,Twig,Fast Play ,Hug me ,Crosswires,and See sheer.

Blushes:MAC has a fab range of blushes but for a beginner I would recommend sheertone? /sheertone shimmer finishes.Sherrtones are easy to work with and wont make one look like a clown.If you have one pink and one peach,In my opinion you are set.You can build you collection slowly.My picks:Fleur power,Breezy ,SUnbasque,Peachykeen.

I havent been too impressed with MAC liquid liners but their fluidlines are amazing.Skip the kohls as you can get similar quality? and colours in most drugstore brands.
